It’s about time that we share our week… I guess not everyone in the Faith Station like to type… But I continue to urge one another to share little or so.. As I refresh back - My detox week.
My detox sorta ended when my trip to Sibu started. It was on Tuesday. My family and I except my brother went back Sibu last Tuesday to attend my cousin’s wedding. We departed from Miri at around 10:30 arriving Sibu City at around 4Pm…
It’s been almost 2 years when I last visit Sibu City… It’s still the same.. very much all the olden structures… all the old buildings… Life’s a little boring there… But very much intimate for me.. with all the foochows around.. hahaha…
After checking in hotel, we went hunting for some local foods.. hahaha.. tried some rojaks.. and some local made dumplings (Chang).. Well, the rojaks there’s a bit different from the common.. Normally Rojak’s mixed with the sauce before served.. but in Sibu, the sauce is served in small bowls, where everyone have their own portion. Then, there’s this sotong, and all kinds of taufu, kuehs placed on a plate and everyone can poke their food and dip into their sauce before eating it..
Then, come dinner… went to restaurant called ‘chuan yang’ it has a beautiful location. Located under the Lanang Bridge. Near the Rajang River. Beautiful…. The bridge is really beautiful… with it’s engineering structure. Before the food, let me do some intro about Sibu. Sibu’s built upon the Rejang/ Rajang delta grounds. Every piece of land in SIbu is swamp area. Therefore, all the structure of the house is built with pilling. Without pilling… most probably the structure may sink like titanic. With land reclaiming technology, amazingly, any reclaim done, the soils just disappears overnight…
Sibu is the only place where even roads also need pilling.. hahaha… Plus, they were the first people to use kayu bakau as pillion. Before cement were created la.. The Lanang Bridge was completed early this year. Before this… Sibu depends heavily on Ferries to ferry the cars and passenger across the Rejang River. Therefore, many travelers have to stop by SIbu overnight or so to cross the river. Trust me, before the completion of the bridge, life’s bad for people like me who wants to go to Kuching from Miri… We have to queue. The jam can sometimes last 4 hours!
The queue is something as long as the whole stretch of Federal highway! And to make it worse… you have to wait for the ferry to cross, the traffic is almost 0% Goodness.. those were the days… The project took almost 5 years to complete… there were sayings that the developers wanted to delay the project so that SIbu would continue to be a stop over for an extra few more years.
Well, for now, Sibu’s still ok.. still the same.. economy is still the same.. I even took the opportunity to visit the River front. Used to be the busiest place in sibu. Where the express boat are the only means of transport to visit remote villages up the stream… There are still a lot of express boats.. but not so busy compared to years before. Do you know that the Rejang River is Malaysia’s longest river? And it measures up to 770 KM.
OF course eating has been my diversity. Hahaha.. Went for all the Foochow food in Sibu… the famous Foochow Buns… Kong Pia… went to the shop I always go.. The baker started the shop back in 1963. The time Malaysia was formed. The shop is really old and ancient… But the bun’s pretty much the same…
Life in Sibu is pretty much boring.. but mind you.. if you ever go to Sibu… Be ware! There are plenty of gangsters… I think majority of the populations are gangsters… Don’t ask me why.. But contrary… Sibu has the most churches in the whole of Malaysia I think… It’s like every 5 steps you walk, there’s a church… everywhere is church!!!!!!!! Majority Methodist. Hehehe.. that’s why.. usually if you wanna look for a Foochow.. you go to a Methodist church…
Well, the banquet style in SIbu is quite different from the banquet I usually attend… different as in the way the banquet is run. The way they honor their guest and the way drinks are served.. the dishes are also a little bit weird.. I can elaborate that if you want..
Then, back in miri.. Detox begins again.. hahaha… Btw, we just had our World Foochow Rally on Saturday and last night… I didn’t attend it though.. My family didn’t continue the membership after my grandpa passed away.. Anyways… I was amazed with the Foochow Heritage centre they recently built. I wanted to visit it but we didn’t have enough time… so, came back Miri without visiting it.. will visit it on my next trip…
Well, Life in Miri is okay… Haven gone anywhere interesting.. Haven done anything very exciting.. Except visit to Sibu… My life dreads as 29 approaches… I hope I can pass at least for all my units… help me pray about it… That’s pretty much about my week… How about you?
